Planning my Next Solo Road Trip – Orlando Here I Come

A couple of weeks ago my daughter called to tell me of their family’s summer vacation plans.  I often go along to enjoy special time with the grandsons and give Melissa and Matt a little alone time as well.  This next trip is to Orlando, Florida.  She asked if I wanted to join again this year and of course I said YES.

While I will be staying in a separate bedroom in the condo, I have decided to drive down separately.  There were a few reasons for that. 1- 14 hours in a car with 3 boys can be a challenge just due to the nature of boys 🙂 and 2 – I am not a light packer.  I love planning for anything I may need if I am driving, so room for 6 in the SUV would be limited.  Besides, always loving my road trips and looking forward to my first long one since I purchased a convertible is inviting.

Traveling alone, however, you do need to plan a bit more for your safety.  You also need to take into consideration your travel style.   How much time do you have to get to your destination?  How far is it and how long should it take to get there?

Do you want to get to your destination as quickly as possible or would you prefer to take time and split up the drive? Do you want to stop to see anything of interest on the way, take time for a good leisurely meal or stop for fast food?

Since I am semi-retired now, I can usually take a few extra days if I wish.  Since Orlando is about 14 hours for me, and for my personal safety I plan on taking an extra 1-2 days to drive down.  That way I am not overtired or driving in the dark.  I think that’s safer if you may be stopping at rest areas or gas stations along the way.

After deciding upon my route, this week I will review hotels along the way to make reservations.  I used to just wait until I was tired and look for a hotel, but things have changed since the pandemic.  I like knowing I have a spot to relax a bit, have a nice meal and a good nights sleep before continuing my drive.  If I see a spot I would like to check out along the route, I will plan that as well.

I’ll let you know in the next post, what I have decided to do.  What kind of things are you planning this summer?  If you have any questions or tips you would like to share, I look forward to hearing from you.

Travel Planning for New Adventures

Hello.  It’s been awhile since I last posted.  There have been so many things over the last year that I set this aside.  I’ve traveled to learn more at conferences.  I’ve traveled with my children and grandchildren, and I’ve traveled alone.  My plans going forward are to post  on Wednesdays.

Each adventure has its own special flavor.  The time spent with my grandchildren exploring new places, or watching a dance competition is priceless.  As I watch them grow up, I realize it won’t be long when they too are on their own path.  I enjoy sharing my love of travel and exploring new places with them.

The time spent at seminars or conferences not only help me grow as a person and entrepreneur, it also has brought countless new friends and acquaintances into my life. I’ve always enjoyed learning and experiencing new things.

I have plans for a week in Orlando, Florida where I will be joining my daughter, son in law and 3 grandsons.  One of the experiences we are looking forward to is swimming with dolphins.  We are all looking forward to this!

I also have plans for a Grand Adventure later this year.  I’ll be going on my longest solo cruise ever – 53 days.  I am so excited and a bit nervous as well.

What do you have planned this year or what kind of things would you like to read about here in this site?  I look forward to hearing from you and sharing both my experiences and answers to your questions.

Roadtrips and Unexpected Events

Wow, I can’t believe 4th of July has already come and gone! The time is flying by. I’ve done some traveling in the last month and have a few more trips planned over the next few months. One of the things that we need to consider when making our plans are to expect the unexpected!

I plan a LOT for most of my trips. On this last trip I decided to rent a car as mine is getting older and I plan to replace it soon. So…I rent a car from Hertz. Great pricing through AAA. I was so happy. The pickup went smoothly and I was on my way….or so I thought! The drive on the first day went great. I was up and in my car by 7:05 am (that’s early for me!!) ready to hit the road to my actual destination. I hit the button and…nothing. Hmmm did I do something wrong? Continue reading

Ready for Summer Fun

Memorial Day is over. June is here with the promise of summer adventures including grilling out, spending time with family and friends and for many of us travel. May was a whirlwind of end of the school year activities with my grandchildren including pre-school and 5th grade graduations, as well as dance recitals and baseball games.

Where should my next destination be? Continue reading

Memorial Day – Summer is Here

First, I want to thank all of our men and women currently in the military and our veterans who allow us to be able have the choices to travel and experience more of life. The Memorial Day weekend is a time to reflect on the sacrifices they have made. My dad was a proud Army Veteran as a paratrooper during the Korean War.

Starting MY Ageless Adventure!

Hello! This is my first post here on Ageless-Adventures. The seed of the idea for this blog started over a year ago when I and a few of my friends were invited to a destination wedding in Florida.

We wanted to attend the wedding and planned to go together. When it came to planning the travel itinerary, my friends asked me to plan the trip. We planned an extra day on the drive down from Ohio to relax so we wouldn’t feel so tired when we arrived for the wedding. I was happy to help with finding hotels and even a historic house/museum to explore at our midway stop.

During the drive to Florida, we had time to catch up and re-connect as the pandemic had kept us from many in-person occasions. One of the topics that came up was how happy they were that I had helped to plan the trip. Although they are both amazing and capable women, they were unsure where to start to plan a trip on their own. Continue reading
